JOB DESCRIPTION
The Commercial Manager is responsible for driving the commercial performance of their assigned category (Food/ Non-Food). The role involves developing and executing category strategies, managing suppliers, optimizing pricing and assortment, and ensuring in-store excellence to meet business objectives in sales, profitability, and customer satisfaction.
- Category Strategy & Execution
- Develop and execute mid-to-long term category strategy aligned with business goals.
- Manage full product lifecycle: assortment planning, pricing, product launch, and delisting.
- Monitor and drive performance: sales, gross margin, inventory turnover, and profitability.
- Supplier & Sourcing Management
- Source, negotiate, and manage relationships with local and international suppliers.
- Lead contract negotiations, joint business plans (JBP), and compliance tracking.
- Drive product development, ensure quality standards and timely launches.
- In-Store Implementation
- Ensure in-store execution aligns with commercial strategy (e.g. planograms, pricing, visual merchandising).
- Coordinate with Operations team to maintain stock availability and quality at store level.
- Gather customer feedback and market insights to adjust merchandising plans.
- Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Marketing, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Finance.
- Align on promotional plans, inventory forecasts, pricing accuracy, and campaign execution.
- Participate in business reviews and category performance meetings.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop junior buyers, category specialists, or sourcing team (if applicable).
- Build a culture of accountability, innovation, and cross-functional teamwork.
- Set KPIs and conduct regular performance reviews.
COMPETENCIES
Functional knowledge & experience:
- 5+ years in commercial/category management, or product development within the retail, FMCG, or Fresh food/produce sectors.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to link category strategy to financial performance
- Proactive in identifying new sourcing opportunities and improving profitability

- Strong negotiation & supplier management
- Strategic thinking and analytical mindset
- Data-driven decision making and project management
- Excellent analytical skills: ability to interpret sales data, market trends, and consumer insights to guide decisions

REQUIRED BACKGROUND
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Supply Chain, or related fields.
Seniority: 5+ years experience in the same level
Language: Fluent in English
Office skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
Familiar with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
